Sintesi geologica
The glacier-covered Mount Haddington shield volcano forms the high point of James Ross Island along the Larsen Rift near the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. Effusive eruptions fed large lava deltas with basal hyaloclastite breccias overlain by subaerial lava flows. Tuff cones and pyroclastic cones on the E flank below the summit icecap were considered to be only a few thousand years old (Smellie et al., 2008).

Riassunto in ingleseJames Ross Island is a large island off the southeast side and near the northeastern extremity of the Antarctic Peninsula, from which it is separated by Prince Gustav Channel. Rising to 1,630 metres (5,350 ft), it is irregularly shaped and extends 40 nautical miles in a north–south direction.
