Privacy Policy

There are no accounts, no sign-in, and no forms anywhere on this site. We never ask for your name, email address, or any other personal detail, and we set no cookies.

A few preferences are kept on your own device so the site opens the way you left it. They never leave your browser and we cannot read them.

• Whether you dismissed the reference-only notice.
• Whether you chose light, dark, or your system setting.
• The catalogue numbers of the volcanoes you starred.
• The map position, carried over when you switch language.

Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it. Private browsing keeps none of it.

We count page views with a self-hosted Umami instance. It uses no cookies and does not identify you or build a profile. It records the page address, the referring site, your screen size, your browser, and a country inferred from your IP address; the IP address itself is not stored.

There is no advertising or cross-site tracking script on this site.

Two things are loaded straight from their source rather than copied onto our servers. As with any web request, those servers can see your IP address and browser.

• Volcano photographs — Wikimedia Commons (commons.wikimedia.org, upload.wikimedia.org), and for some volcanoes the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program (volcano.si.edu)

The site is served as static files by Cloudflare. Like any host, Cloudflare handles the network requests needed to deliver a page.

This site currently shows no advertising. If that changes, this page will be updated before any ad is served, and visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom will be asked for consent first.
